Maha Sundays
(Special Sundays)
Maha is the Sanskrit word for great. On the first and third Sunday of each month we have invited the best teachers from the Japanese and international community to visit us in Nikko and offer their teachings at Myogetsu-bo Studio.
As an opportunity to experience the many philosophies and approaches of hatha yoga, teachers from many different yoga traditions will offer classes including Iyengar, Anusara, Ashtanga, Green, Kripalu, Power and many more.
These special classes are for beginners as well as experienced daily practitioners. The Maha Sunday schedules are designed to include the yoga community outside of Tochigi, especially those coming from Tokyo. For those would like to spend a day outside of the city and visit Nikko, early trains from Tokyo arrive in plenty of time for our morning "refresh" class, and you can join a "renew" class with plenty of time to enjoy the beauty of surroundings before you return to Tokyo.

SPECIAL MAHA WEEKENDS
For students who would like to stretch their Maha Sunday into a whole weekend, we have special Maha Weekends. On these weekends we invite you to come to Nikko on Saturday and experience a deep practice with the Maha Sunday teacher and then enjoy an evening of community and fun with the teacher and your fellow students. The Special Maha Sunday Weekends begin on Saturday with a three hour class from 14:00 to 17:00. After that you can enjoy Nikko’s wonderful onsen, gourmet vegetarian meals and stay in a nurturing environment so that you can wake up listening to birds and water sounds, refreshed and ready for your Maha Sunday. We suggest that if you attend a Maha Weekend you might want to arrive early on Saturday and visit the temples and shrines of Nikko.
Maha Weekend Schedule:
There are no Maha Sundays or Weekends planned for 2010. Please see Workshops & Event page for information of programs being hosted at EcoNikko.
